Author: David Author's Website: http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/ Added: November 28, 2008 Since I have been spending more time with setting goals in Google Analytics, I have been able to get a much clearer view about where I should spend my time marketing. It is very easy to simply look at stats, and assume that the sites that are delivering the most traffic are the best places to focus time or advertising dollars.
What I have done more recently is set goals like these: 1. Customer reaches registration page 2. Customer completed registration 3. Customer completed purchase
What I am finding is: 1. Some sites deliver low traffic, but have a high conversion rate 2. Some sites deliver a ton of traffic, but nobody even completes the first step, registration.
This has opened my eyes considerably. I may be a little late getting to this, but I want to encourage others to spend more time setting goals and measuring where their best traffic is coming from.
Now I am working on testing different content on the homepage, and seeing which bring about the best results. I will report on this in a couple of weeks.
